Key Features
Display
The Lunar Discovery uses a TFT LCD panel — an important distinction at this price point. Unlike AMOLED displays (which produce deep blacks by powering off individual pixels), TFT LCD uses a constant backlight, resulting in lighter blacks and lower contrast ratios. The trade-off is that LCD panels can achieve high brightness levels efficiently, and the Lunar Discovery's 800-nit peak brightness makes it one of the more readable budget round displays in direct daylight.
At 240×240 pixels across 1.39 inches, the 244 PPI density is adequate for glancing at time, notifications, and health stats. Text and icons are reasonably crisp for everyday use, though fine map detail and smaller data labels may appear slightly blocky compared to higher-resolution panels. The round dial form factor gives it a classic watch aesthetic that differentiates it from the more common rectangular smartwatch designs in the budget segment.
The display does not come with named glass protection (such as Gorilla Glass or sapphire) at this price point, which is standard for the segment. Using a screen protector is advisable for long-term scratch resistance. Wake-on-wrist gesture is supported, so you can raise your wrist to turn on the display without pressing a button.

Water Resistance
The Lunar Discovery carries an IP67 rating, meaning it is protected against dust ingress and can withstand submersion in up to 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes. In practical terms, it handles sweat, rain, handwashing, and accidental splashes without concern. It is suitable for gym workouts and outdoor activities in wet conditions.
However, IP67 is not a swimming-grade rating. Unlike 5 ATM-rated watches (which are tested for dynamic water pressure), IP67 is a static immersion test. Swimming, showering, or any activity with sustained water pressure or submersion beyond 1 metre is not recommended. If swim tracking is a priority, you would need to look at watches with a 5 ATM or higher rating.
iOS & Android Compatibility
The Lunar Discovery pairs with both Android (7.0 and above) and iOS (14.0 and above) via Bluetooth 5.3. The free boAt Crest App — available on both Google Play and the Apple App Store — is the central hub for managing health data, customising watch faces via the DIY Watch Face Studio, setting up the QR Tray, and accessing the Crest Fitness Challenge social features.
Third-party fitness platform sync is supported for Google Fit, Strava, and Apple Health, allowing workout data to flow into your existing fitness ecosystem regardless of which phone you use. For most everyday features — Bluetooth calling, navigation, notifications, and health tracking — the experience is equivalent across both platforms. The boAt Crest App also supports a bilingual interface in Hindi and English, which is a thoughtful inclusion for Indian users.
Health & Wellness Suite
The Lunar Discovery covers all essential everyday health metrics: continuous heart rate monitoring, SpO₂ (blood oxygen), sleep tracking, stress tracking, step counting, and calorie burn. An optical heart rate sensor runs 24/7 in the background and can alert you to unusual spikes. The sleep tracker logs light, deep, and REM cycles for nightly insights on sleep quality.
Guided breathing exercises help manage stress during tense moments, while hydration and sedentary reminders nudge you to drink water and move during prolonged periods of inactivity. Female wellness tracking supports menstrual cycle logging and related health reminders, adding practical value for women users beyond pure fitness metrics.
All health data syncs into the boAt Crest App, which visualises trends over time and integrates with the Crest Fitness Challenge — a social feature that lets you set step goals, join fitness challenges, and earn boAt Coins as rewards for staying active. This gamification layer makes the health suite more engaging for users who benefit from social motivation.

Verdict
The boAt Lunar Discovery punches well above its segment with standout India-first features — MapmyIndia navigation, QR Code Tray, Emergency SOS, and bilingual Hindi support make it uniquely practical for everyday Indian users. The 800-nit round display, Bluetooth 5.3, and DIY Watch Face Studio add further value. The core compromises are the phone-dependent GPS, TFT LCD panel, and health sensor accuracy limitations that come with the territory at this price. Choose the Lunar Discovery if navigation, QR payments, and India-specific smart features matter to you. Consider stepping up to an AMOLED rival if display quality and standalone GPS are higher priorities.
